Hikvision AI NVR: Capabilities, Product Matrix, and Deployment Guide

An AI NVR is a network video recorder that processes video with AI on the recorder itself. It detects, classifies, and retrieves objects and events across recorded and live video, without relying on a separate analytics server or cloud service.

Hikvision AI NVRs build on this concept with two AI specializations on a shared base of core security analytics, all powered by Guanlan large-scale AI models.

• Natural-language video search, known as the AcuSeek application, runs on a large multimodal model that connects text descriptions with visual content. It stands as the signature feature of the AcuSeek NVR family.
• Scenario-specific video analytics, delivered through algorithm packages, run on a large vision model that recognizes objects and activities in live video streams. They differentiate the DeepinMind NVR family, and help users boost everyday security and efficiency.

A traditional network video recorder does its core jobs well: it encodes, records, plays back, and stores video. What it cannot do is tell you what happened in that video. Finding one incident means scrubbing through hours of footage manually, and detecting an event as it happens means either watching live feeds around the clock or adding a separate analytics server to the system.

AI NVRs close that gap on the device itself:

• Describe instead of scrub: Type a description like “person in a red jacket” or “white delivery van”, and matching footage surfaces in seconds, not hours.
• Detection instead of observation: The recorder identifies people, vehicles, and activities in real time, and raises alarms only for events that matter.

AcuSeek, the AI video search application that gives the AcuSeek NVR family its name, removes the bottleneck. Type or speak a description — “a man with a black backpack”, “person walking a dog”, “white van near the entrance” — and the recorder returns matching footage in seconds, filterable by criteria such as time and location for more precise results. From a search result, the companion AcuSearch function then traces that specific target across all connected video channels, providing a timeline of its appearances for further review.

AI video analytics — detecting what is happening in real time

Running on Hikvision's AI NVRs, algorithm packages watch every stream continuously and raise alarms the moment a defined event occurs. Scenario-specific analytics are unique to Hikvision’s DeepinMind NVRs, while core security analytics are available across both product families. Each product family has its major engine: the Guanlan large multimodal model behind AcuSeek NVRs, and the Guanlan large vision model that powers DeepinMind NVRs. This chapter explains how each works.

How an AcuSeek NVR works

Inside an AcuSeek NVR, the large multimodal model creates connections between text descriptions and visual content. The search process has three stages:

1. Real-time modeling: As cameras capture video, the system performs text-image modeling on the elements in each stream, storing a searchable data profile for every element.

2. Smart query conversion: When a user enters a query — “black Mercedes”, “person pushing a trolley” — the system converts the text into image feature vectors.

3. Precision matching: The vectors are matched against the database, and only the most relevant frames are returned, ranked by similarity.

With an AcuSeek NVR, search is flexible by design. Preset target types and feature options — person, vehicle, colors, accessories, activities — offer quick entry points, while free-form descriptions let users input in their own words.

On the top tier of the AcuSeek NVR family, this extends further with Open-Vocabulary Object Detection (OVD): virtually any object described in natural language can be searched, beyond preset categories.

How a DeepinMind NVR works

AI video analytics run on a large vision model, with capabilities organized into algorithm packages. The packages on a DeepinMind NVR come from two sources:

• Built-in algorithms developed by Hikvision: the scenario analytics listed above — from PPE and smoking detection to fire and smoke monitoring — are mature algorithms that Hikvision has trained on the Guanlan large vision model, delivered ready to deploy.
• Custom algorithms imported by the user: through Hikvision's AI Open Platform (AIOP), users can train algorithms for their own use cases and import them to the recorder, extending detection to scenarios the built-in algorithms don't cover.

From either source, the analytics run on the recorder itself, so a site adds or updates detection capabilities without changing hardware.

AcuSeek NVRs: three tiers of text-based video search

AcuSeek NVRs come in three tiers, scaled by search capacity and deployment size.

K/VPro Series NVR suits small businesses and households taking their first step into AI video search — cafés, shops, apartments — where natural-language video search is easily done on the Hik-Connect app.

I/VPro Series NVR is the mid-scale choice: six times the daily modeling capacity, an extended seven-day search window on local GUI and web, and multi-language search on every interface, for sites where investigators run searches routinely rather than occasionally.

P Series AcuSeek Station adds capabilities the lower tiers lack: Open-Vocabulary Object Detection for searching virtually any object described in natural language, license plate search with ANPR cameras, OpenAlert (planned) that will turn a text description like “person riding a motorcycle without a helmet” into a working alarm, and AcuSeek Tuning, which lets operators label correct and incorrect results to refine accuracy on-site.

DeepinMind NVRs: two tiers of AI video analytics

DeepinMind NVRs come in two tiers, divided by the analytics a site needs.

DeepinMind Edge General AI NVR is the fit when a site's needs center on core security analytics — facial recognition and perimeter protection — complemented by video structuralization (extracting people, vehicles, and their attributes from video as structured data) and AcuSearch for attribute-based video retrieval.

DeepinMind Edge Fusion AI NVR covers the same core security analytics as the General AI NVR tier and adds more diversified detection: the scenario-specific algorithms introduced earlier — personnel compliance, environment and public safety, and counting and statistics — plus custom algorithms trained and imported through the AI Open Platform (AIOP) when a scenario falls outside the built-in set. 

The choice comes down to three questions: what should the intelligence do, how large is the deployment, and what cameras are already on-site.

Question 1 — search or scenario analytics?

If the priority is finding events after the fact — investigations, incident review, lost property — start from the AcuSeek NVR family. If the site needs scenario-specific detection such as PPE compliance, smoking, or fire and smoke, DeepinMind NVRs carry those algorithm packages. Core security analytics like perimeter protection and facial recognition are available either way.

Question 3 — new project or renovation?

It all comes down to the cameras on-site. K/VPro and I/VPro Series NVRs require AcuSense cameras for AcuSeek analysis, making them ideal for new projects. In contrast, the P Series AcuSeek Station delivers AcuSeek capabilities with up to 32 channels of conventional IP cameras (whether from Hikvision or third parties), making it perfect for renovation projects. This allows existing cameras to gain AI video search simply by upgrading the recorder. DeepinMind NVRs follow the same renovation-friendly principle: analytics run entirely on the recorder itself, and existing IP cameras feed the system just as-is.
